In Nehemiah's second chapter he approaches the king with regard to the state of Jerusalem. How he goes about this is a lesson in communication: with God; with those in authority and with each other.

When Hosea redeems Gomer from her adulterous life he pays 3 times the going rate. Though we stray from God he puts a value on us way beyond what we deserve but when he brings us into his house he sets the rules. Will we commit to what God asks of us?

Moving from Hosea 1 to Hosea 2, Esther looks at Gomer, Hosea's wife, how she forsakes the strange but secure love of her husband and pursues her fickle but familiar lover or lovers. This story illustrates our own unfaithfulness but also God's discipline and desire for restoration.

Richard teaches from Hosea 1 about the adulterous wife representing (for Hosea) the apostate nation of Israel. However, Richard's premise is that we tend to be unfaithful by nature but, through selfless love, God calls us to a life of faithfulness.

In the book of Acts we hear about the people having everything in common and joining together in prayer and fellowship. Its this model that Cristi (our visiting speaker) commends to us. Using ABCD he sums up his message: Attend (don't neglect meeting together), Belong (fellowship), Cry out together (pray) and Demonstrate (be the people of God).

You wouldn't expect a healthy family discussion to sound like a quiet afternoon at the library. Well neither does Richard's New Year Address to the Home Church family. Richard teaches what it means to be a church using the illustration of a hand (see the About page on the church website). Unfortunately we've lost the last few minutes but its still well worth listening to.

Preaching from Deuteronomy 11, Steven Scholes talked about church growth, relating his own experience as pastor of a church in Cleveleys. At the beginning of a New Year how are we to approach this subject? Steven suggested that we need commitment and passion but with a dose of realism.
